Homework Coaching with Dr. Di – 2020-2021
Hi, everyone,
I am an educator with 14 years of experience in area high schools and several more at the college level. I wanted to let you know that this year I will be offering my services as a learning/homework coach for high school students who would benefit from two short points of contact a week.
I will be working with high school students in small groups of up to four students. Each group will meet for 25 minutes on Monday evening and 25 minutes on Wednesday evening with the goal of starting strong and maintaining a focus on learning through whatever transitions we see this year (virtual, hybrid, in-person).
I think these two shorter sessions per week will prove to be a huge advantage in allowing me to help students set and follow through with their individual goals, and having others in the group will provide a sense of both community and accountability. We will work on setting up a daily routine that they like, accessing motivation, engaging in subjects they don’t love, and working in a focused way so that their down time is guilt-free. We’ll also work on organization, address procrastination explicitly, and begin to think about the future – and we’ll probably laugh a lot, too. : )
Students will need to be willing to commit to attending on time and doing their best to follow through with their goals. This level of support may be most appropriate for students who experience mild to moderate challenges with the issues listed above. If you believe your child faces more serious challenges, it might help to seek a situation with a tutor who works with one student at a time on a consistent basis. You are welcome to give my groups a try first and to move on to a dedicated tutor if you come to believe that would be better.
I currently have room for four students in my Monday-Wednesday 5 p.m. group and four students in my Monday-Wednesday 5:30 p.m. group. The cost is $45 per week per student (this includes both sessions). If you would like to support a partial or full scholarship for a student in need, please let me know. We will not meet over school holidays and breaks. I expect to be able to open up more groups later this year. Unfortunately, I cannot tutor my own students (students who have me specifically as a teacher on their class list or students who have me as a gifted case manager). Please email me at [email protected] if you (and your child!) are interested. Thanks for reading and best wishes, everyone, with everything we are all coping with – here’s hoping there are some unexpected silver linings there somewhere!
Sincerely,
Dr. Di (Kimberly DiMattia)
